"If it's a wire or cable and you need something done to it, we can do it”
Wire Harnesses
A wiring harness is basically just a group of wires that are bundled together. A harness can be as small as a few wires inside a small appliance or portable electronic device or as large as a aircraft control systems harness. The great advantage of a wire harness is they can be consistantly mass manufactured on wire harness board or fixture to be installed at a later time rather than laid out one wire or cable at a time within the assembly. This greatly improves manufacturing quality processes as well as manufacturing efficiency.
- Wire and Cable Harness Efficiency and Quality advantages:
- Wires can be cut, stripped and terminated by automated machinery
- Cables can be cut and stripped by automated machinery
- Cables can be mass terminated when possible
- Harness can be tested in place on the harness board
- Harness can easily be bound with ties, lacing or sleeves very quickly using automated machinery while in place on the harness board
Coaxial Cables
A Coaxial cable is an electrical cable which has an insulated central conductor covered by a shielding conductor layer which is itself normally covered with an insulating jacket for electrical insulation and protection. These cables are widely used for audio and video signals and have the capability of carrying both very low to very high frequency signals. The outer conductor shield minimizes high frequency electrical interference signals.
Coaxial cables are usually crimp or solder terminated with a wide variety of connectors designed to match the cables characteristic impedance. We manufacture virtually all coax cable connector types - BNC, TNC, F, SMC, SMB. RAM manufactures Semi-Rigid, Conformable hand formable Coaxial Cables and standard insulated Coax cables. Precision termination is the key to coax manufacturing as even the smallest imperfections can cause severe problems at higher frequencies. RAM already has the proper tooling and highly trained professional solderers to expertly terminate any kind of Coaxial cable with the connector you need. We may even have the cable and connectors you need for your assembly in stock.

Flat Flexible Cables
Flat, Flexible Cables (FFC) are flat copper "wires" laminated between layers of polyester or other insulating material which are used in laptops, cell phones and other small portable electronic devices where space is very limited. FFC cables are most often used for interconnecting printed circuit boards. RAM has decades of experience assembling FFC cables.
Multi Conductor Cables
Multi Conductor Cables enable electrical power and signal wiring to be contained in a single jacketed cable assembly. They cover a very broad range of uses, from industrial automation control to vending machinery, to audio/video and communications. Various gauges of wire, different insulation materials, shielded and unshielded, coaxial and twisted pair conductors can all be combined within a single cable. Cutting, stripping and terminating multi conductor cable with todays myriad of combination power/signal connectors or to multiple connectors requires proper tooling, soldering and assembly skills. RAM has the experience and expertise to complete your multi conductor cable assemblies correctly in a timely fashion.
Ribbon Cables
Ribbon cables are flat, multi-conductor cables with all of the wires arranged side by side along the same plane. They can have twisted pairs or be shielded. The termination is usually done with Insulation Displacement (IDC) connectors. RAM has been making ribbon cables since the 1980s and has assembled a vast assortment of automated and manual machines, presses and tooling for cutting, stripping and crimp terminating flat ribbon cable and IDC connectors. Small batches can be quickly set up and assembled easily by our engineers and cable assemblers who have the experience and tooling they need for nearly any cable and connector available today.
Should you outsource your wire harness/Cable manufacturing to a Contract Manufacturer?
Outsourcing electronics cable manufacturing to a contract manufacturer can offer several advantages for companies. Here are some key benefits:
Cost savings: Contract manufacturers often have specialized equipment, expertise, and economies of scale that allow them to produce cables at a lower cost compared to in-house manufacturing. By outsourcing, companies can reduce overhead expenses associated with setting up and maintaining a dedicated production facility, purchasing equipment, hiring and training staff, and managing the entire manufacturing process.
Focus on core competencies: Outsourcing cable manufacturing allows companies to concentrate on their core competencies and strategic activities. Instead of allocating resources and time to cable production, companies can focus on research and development, marketing, sales, and other areas crucial to their business growth and competitive advantage.
Access to specialized knowledge and skills: Contract manufacturers often possess extensive knowledge and experience in cable manufacturing. They have specialized engineers, technicians, and production teams who are well-versed in the latest manufacturing techniques, industry standards, and quality control measures. This expertise can result in higher quality cables, improved reliability, and reduced defect rates.
Flexibility and scalability: Contract manufacturers offer flexibility and scalability to adapt to changing production demands. They can adjust their manufacturing capacity and resources to meet fluctuating orders, product variations, or market conditions. This flexibility allows companies to quickly ramp up production during peak periods or scale down during slower times, without the burden of maintaining excess capacity in-house.
Faster time to market: Outsourcing cable manufacturing can expedite the product development and launch process. Contract manufacturers are equipped to handle the entire manufacturing cycle efficiently, from prototype development to mass production. Their streamlined processes, established supply chains, and manufacturing expertise can help accelerate production timelines, reducing time to market and allowing companies to seize market opportunities more rapidly.
Risk mitigation: Contract manufacturers often assume some of the risks associated with manufacturing, such as technological advancements, market fluctuations, and regulatory compliance. They stay up-to-date with industry trends, invest in advanced equipment and infrastructure, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This can help mitigate risks for the outsourcing company and enhance product quality and reliability.
Global reach and market expansion: Contract manufacturers frequently have an established global network and presence, which can be advantageous for companies looking to expand their reach or enter new markets. By leveraging the contract manufacturer's distribution channels, supply chain capabilities, and regional expertise, companies can access new customers and markets without investing heavily in infrastructure and logistics.
It is important to note that while outsourcing electronics cable manufacturing offers numerous benefits, companies should carefully select a reputable and reliable contract manufacturer, conduct due diligence, and establish clear communication and performance metrics to ensure a successful partnership.
